First Alfa Romeo 8Cs Delivered! Hot Red for the Cool Season
The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione has been one of the most eagerly awaited new cars over the past few years – and it’s easy to see why. The two-seat sports car has a 4.7-liter V8 engine putting out 450 hp, and its gorgeous bodywork remains true to the concept car that first captivated the crowds at Frankfurt five years ago. Add in the fine, hand-crafted interior and true limited production exclusivity and you have a knockout combination. Now, the few lucky owners are getting their chance to enjoy this superb car for themselves as the first deliveries get under way.
The first official delivery in North America was made by Miller Motorcars of Greenwich Connecticut to noted car enthusiast and connoisseur James Glickenhaus, who declared himself particularly proud of being the first American customer to take delivery of the first new Alfa Romeo in the US in over a decade. He departed almost immediately for a road test. He intends to use the 8C as one of his daily drivers.

The dashing supercar was styled at Centro Stile Alfa Romeo in Torino, but it is built at the famous Maserati factory in Modena, a demonstration of the unique capabilities of Maserati craftsmanship. So the 8C bears the famous Alfa Romeo badge, but Maserati DNA is inextricably woven through the entire machine. The steel chassis is based on the GranTurismo's, with a shortened wheelbase, while the engine is a modified version of the 4.7-liter V8 fitted to the GranTurismo S and Quattroporte S. As well, the 8C has benefitted from other Maserati technology including its aggressively tuned suspension and the super fast and smooth paddle shift gearbox that is closely related to the MC Shift of the GranTurismo S.

Only 84 of the total production of 500 Alfa Romeo 8C were allocated to the North American market, making it one of the rarest cars on the road, and also making it a natural fit for Maserati’s exemplary low-volume manufacturing expertise. Consider yourself fortunate if you see one of these beauties on the road! Each car was custom-ordered by its client to their exacting specification: of the 84 total in North America 70 are in one of the two stunning shades of red available – a traditional Alfa Romeo red or a special four-stage red with a deep sparkle. Ten 8C customers specified black, and for the ultimate in exclusivity two were ordered in yellow and only one in silver. The first car delivered to Mr. Glickenhaus was specially painted in the same red as his Pininfarina-designed Ferrari P4/5.
While the 8C shares with all Maseratis the choice of Poltrona Frau as suppler of its opulent upholstery, the spectacular woven leather design is unique to the Alfa Romeo. The pattern is repeated on its optional luggage, each piece designed exactly to purpose and fitted to its own position in the space-efficient coupe.
The 8C is a fitting legacy to the heritage of Alfa Romeo, and Maserati is proud to be a part of this legendary brand’s renaissance in North America.
Deliveries and maintenance of 8Cs in North America are being handled by a select network of authorized Alfa Romeo 8C dealers that were chosen from the Maserati dealer network. Visit yours today to better understand why Alfa Romeo and 8C owners are happy to entrust their supercar to the same people in whom the Trident places its faith.
