The Most Powerful Quattroporte Ever Quattroporte Sport GT S unleashed in Detroit
These are great days for Maserati! 2008 saw the first deliveries of the superb GranTurismo S, with the new 4.7-liter V8 engine and MC Shift gearbox; in addition the 2009 Quattroporte was unveiled, with new styling that re-emphasizes the family connection with the GranTurismo. And the Quattroporte S received both the new styling and the 4.7 engine. And now, only days into 2009 there is another new Maserati roaring in from the horizon.
Proudly unveiled by Maserati CEO Harald Wester, the Quattroporte Sport GT S was greeted by the world’s media at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This new performance flagship of the Quattroporte range is the most powerful sedan ever produced by Maserati. The extra power of the Quattroporte Sport GT S is thanks to new electronics and the adoption of a new sports exhaust system; the 4.7-l V8 engine delivers 433 hp – not to mention an almost indefinable exhaust sound. Its transmission management software has new features to allow the enthusiastic driver to get the most from the engine and ZF 6-speed automatic transmission; and to help keep it all under control, the Quattroporte Sport GT S is fitted with new single-rate dampers and stiffer springs. The ride height has been lowered, by 0.4” at the front and by 1” at the rear, reducing body roll even further and giving greater traction when powering out of corners to sprint away from would-be sport sedans and supposed sports cars.

The Pininfarina-designed exterior of the Quattroporte is a modern classic, so only minor modifications emphasize the harder sporting edge of the Sport GT S. The Trident in the center of the concave black front grille features red accents, while the brake calipers are also red. Speaking of brakes, the ventilated rotors are cross-drilled, and the front brakes are made using the innovative dual-cast technology pioneered by Maserati with Brembo; 20” silver multi-Trident wheels are standard. The interior of the car has not been forgotten; the new seat design features breathable perforated Alcantara suede and leather, while the headlining is also Alcantara. Interior trim is in stunning ‘Titantex’, a cool dark version of the Alutex used in the GranTurismo S. ‘Trofeo’ gear shift paddles are standard, as is a gear shift indicator.
